Code for Ukraine

Pilot project in partnership with Code.X, Help Us Help is launching a one-year coding program for children in Ukraine aged 14-15 aimed at providing life-changing technical education and personal skills development to Ukraine's war-affected youth. The program focuses on empowering these young individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the digital age, preparing them for future career opportunities and enabling them to become agents of change within their communities.

Program Design

Code for Ukraine’s pilot cohort will include 50 students selected across Ukrainian society, with special emphasis on Ukraine’s war-affected youth and orphan populations. The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has had a devastating impact on Ukrainian youth. Many children have been orphaned or directly affected by the violence and instability caused by the war, suffering from educational and economic disadvantages and limiting their future prospects.

Code for Ukraine will take place in Lviv, far from any military conflict. Students will participate in 3 overnight camps between July 2024 and July 2025, developing computational, creative, and critical thinking skills. Students will practice the skills they learn over the summer with additional twice-monthly extracurricular classes between camps.

Student Application

This is a twelve month program that will consist of 3 camps (Summer 2024, Winter 2024/2025, and Summer 2025). You will begin by learning Introductory Programming in Python and Creative Mindsets for our 2024 summer camp (July 8-21, 2024), then practice those skills during our yearlong sessions (October-December). You will repeat this process for two additional camps in January 2025 and July 2025, learning awesome programming, design, and entrepreneurship skills!

To join as a student, you must already be located in Lviv or Lviv Oblast and be able to stay at the program location for the duration of the camp. You are required to be available, to the best of your knowledge, for the full set of dates listed above.

Children eligible to apply:

• Between the ages of 14-16, Grade 10-11 

• Live in Lviv or Lviv Oblast

• Orphan or deprived of parental care, child from a large family, child from a low-income family, child from a family in difficult life circumstances, internally displaced, child with a disability, child growing up in an institutional care facility (orphanage, boarding school, etc.), child of a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, child of a fallen participant of the Russian-Ukrainian war

• You are able to commit to three camps and additional work during the school year.

Це дванадцятимісячна програма, яка складатиметься з 3 таборів (літо 2024, зима 2024/2025 та літо 2025). Ви почнете з вивчення вступного курсу з програмування на Python та креативного мислення під час літнього табору 2024 року (8-21 липня 2024 року), а потім практикуватимете ці навички під час наших річних сесій (жовтень-грудень). Ви повторите цей процес протягом двох додаткових таборів у січні 2025 року та липні 2025 року, здобуваючи чудові навички програмування, дизайну та підприємництва!

Щоб долучитися до програми як студент, ви вже маєте перебувати у Львові чи Львівській області та мати змогу проживати в місці проведення табору протягом усього періоду його проведення. Ви повинні бути доступні, наскільки вам відомо, протягом усіх дат, перелічених вище.

Діти, які мають право подавати заявку:

• Віком від 14 до 16 років, 10-11 клас.

• Проживають у Львові або Львівській області. 

• Дитина-сирота або дитина, позбавлена батьківського піклування, дитина з багатодітної родини, дитина з малозабезпеченої родини, дитина з сім’ї, що перебуває у складних життєвих обставинах, внутрішньо-переміщена дитина, дитина з інвалідністю, дитина, що зростає/ла в закладі інституційного догляду (дитячий будинок, інтернат тощо), дитина ветерана російсько-української війни, дитина загиблого учасника російсько-української війни. 

• Ви можете взяти участь у трьох таборах та додатковій роботі протягом навчального року.
